Equal opportunities and ECR support

Welcome to the Equal Opportunities and Early Career Researcher (ECR) Support portal of the Law Faculty of the University of Bern

The Faculty of Law is committed to fostering equal opportunities for students, researchers, lecturers, and staff in all their diversity. Promoting inclusion across all dimensions of diversity is considered a key pillar of academic excellence.

Supporting projects

The RW Schreibretraite - Writing Retreat of the Law Faculty is aimed at postdoctoral researchers and PhD students who are already in the process of writing their own research projects. It is designed to provide a setting in which participants can physically distance themselves from their day-to-day distractions and devote themselves to their research work and progress.

Registration (document available only in German) dead line 15th august 2026

The RW Mentoring Programme is a scheme run by the Faculty of Law (RW) at the University of Bern to support early-career researchers. It is aimed at PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, with the purpose of providing them with individual support in planning their academic or non-academic careers. The programme is run in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences.

The RW Care Support Funds for early-career researchers with care responsibilities offers support to help them complete their doctoral or postdoctoral research projects promptly. Possible measures include research assistantships, financial relief for care-institutions, or funding for additional support in connection with conference attendance and similar activities.

Faculty contact points

The faculty contact points of the Law Faculty are a first and low-threshold point of contact for problems and conflicts that cannot be resolved in direct discussions with superiors and/or colleagues. All concerns are treated in strict confidence. The confidential counsellors cannot issue orders, but can suggest possible solutions and provide contacts.
